Hello Everyone!
This is a just a short blog to keep my wonderful family and friends up to date on my South Africa adventures. As I type, I am currently packing up and getting ready to get on my flight... 22 hours on a boeing 777-200. Nonetheless, I am sooo excited!
This summer I will be traveling to South Africa and working in the Manguzi Provincial Hospital shadowing and studying the implementation of Western obstetrics in the very rural environment. I am very excited, and although I may vomit during the first few births... I am sure I'll get used to it.
Alrightyy... I am getting ready to take off so lots of love, and I can't wait to tell you guys how it is!
Lauren
yay princess I hope you keep up with the blog!!!
ReplyDeleteLauren, I am so excited to be able "follow along" with you during this journey you have begun. This is going to be something you will never forget. Glad that after a 22 hour plane ride you are still excited to embrace everything that is about to come your way as well. You have me over here working to make bigger things happen for myself, so keep inspiring us with all you have to say and share while in Africa and in the mean time we will all be over here thinking of you.

ReplyDeleteoh wait. pook said that sorry lol :)
ReplyDeletelauren,
ReplyDeletewhen you were at nelson mandela's house, did you see a quilt hanging on the wall with all the names/symbols of the historically black colleges and universities in the U.S. on it? oscar said the quilt was presented to mandela from the HBCUs and he'd put it up in the house.
your comment about how the black liberation struggle in this country influenced the struggles of blacks in south africa is really interesting. and what influenced us (through martin luther king)? the nonviolent strategies/teachings of gandhi in their struggle in india over the domination/rule/imperialism of the british. we are all connected...:)
love you. can't wait for your posts from cape town!
love,
bonnie
